Riewe Sisters Memorial Girls’ Basketball Scholarship

Ted and his wife, Lois Schmitz. Two smiling, older Caucasian people. Both have white hair and thin, wire-frame glasses. The man is in a white shirt and the woman in a light blue jacket.

This scholarship is in memory of sisters Anita and Monika, who were huge Coyote girls basketball fans. They loved going to the games and cheering for the Coyote girls! The girls would give them high fives and make them feel welcome. When Anita passed away, the girls basketball team sent a nice sympathy card, and Anita's sister and nephew decided to start the scholarship.

Anita was hearing impaired and watching sports gave her great joy. She was a 1961 WHS graduate. Monika was a great fan of all sports. She graduated from WHS in 1967. She had many medical problems, and sports was always something she could watch, no matter how ill she was.

This scholarship was established by the following people:

  • Karl Merk, Class of 1981
  • Juanita Merk Semingson, Class of 1982
  • Hannah Riewe Henderson, Class of 1964

Scholarship amount: $250
