Janet Hughes Laqua Memorial Scholarship

Ted and his wife, Lois Schmitz. Two smiling, older Caucasian people. Both have white hair and thin, wire-frame glasses. The man is in a white shirt and the woman in a light blue jacket.

Janet Hughes Laqua was a dedicated student-athlete, who shined at both academics and athletics during her time at Williston High School.  She excelled at the subjects of math and science in the classroom and her athletic passions included track and field, volleyball, basketball, and barrel racing.  She would later become a teacher and coach at WHS after attending the University of North Dakota – Williston (now Williston State College) and Minot State University.

Janet passed away in February 1994 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Steve and Peggy (Laqua) Arnt established this scholarship in Janet’s memory.  Janet’s family would like to pass her passion for academics and athletics on to a student-athlete continuing their education at the next level.
