Floyd and Hildegarde Penfield Memorial Scholarship

Ted and his wife, Lois Schmitz. Two smiling, older Caucasian people. Both have white hair and thin, wire-frame glasses. The man is in a white shirt and the woman in a light blue jacket.

The Penfields were long time educators, and they felt the need to help area students financially in pursuing their higher education. Floyd taught math at Williston High School and was the administrator and math teacher in Alamo, Springbrook, and Tioga. He also taught in Montana for a number of years. Hildegarde taught in the elementary grades in those schools. She completed her teaching career as a first grade teacher at Rickard Elementary School in Williston. This scholarship was established in 1985, and was administered by American State Bank and Trust, and then Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. In 2017, it was given to the Coyote Foundation to continue helping students.
