Lloyd Larson Memorial History Scholarship Created

This month, a new Coyote Foundation scholarship was created in memory of Lloyd Larson, who taught history at Williston High School from 1957 to 1976. His sons, Don, David, and Bill Larson, created the scholarship in memory of their father, to be awarded to a student each year who will pursue a degree in the field of history or education.

Lloyd Jerome Larson was born August 28, 1920 to Olaf and Mary (Johnson) Larson on the family farm in Divide County. He graduated from Arnegard High School. In 1942, graduated from Concordia College with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and entered the US Naval Reserve Midshipmen’s School as an ensign. In 1944, he was discharged and returned to the family farm. Lloyd later received an M.A. in school administration from the U of Minnesota in 1953.

He taught in the area schools of Grenora, Hanks, Zahl, Crosby, and Epping, and also taught for one year in Alaska. He finished his teaching career with Williston Public School District #1, teaching history at the junior high and senior high. He taught history at WHS from 1957 to 1976. He was also the President of the Williston Education Association (1965-1966). Lloyd married Mary Ann Valentine on July 9th, 1961. Mary passed away January 13th, 2016.

Lloyd built the Kleen Kar Wash and operated it for 11 years. Lloyd delighted in classical music, sharing meaningful poetry, traveling, reading his Bible, playing whist, and being with his friends and family. He was a longtime member of the Sons of Norway Lodge, Odd Fellows, Toastmasters Club, and First Lutheran Church. Lloyd Larson passed away May 24, 1995 at the age of 74.
